Fall Break is almost here! 🍂 Usually we’re o Fall Break is almost here! 🍂

Usually we’re on break this first week of October and, with it delayed a week this year, I am STRUGGLING. My OneDrive memories keep showing me Fall Breaks of yore, so I’m pulling out some pics and destinations for your inspiration!

These shots are from a 2021 trip to Mount Desert Island, Maine, which holds a hugely special place in my heart. The best destination for:

🥾 Endless hikes for all levels
🏞️ A National Park visit (Acadia)
🦞 Truly the best food
🌿 Quiet homes and villages to explore
📷 Enough scenery to fill your memory card

When it comes to my kids, I’m aiming for a 1990s When it comes to my kids, I’m aiming for a 1990s-level of technology use, so when I say we embraced some retro vacation vibes during our stay at @chickasawstatepark, I really mean it—so much so that more than once I stood on our cabin porch and hollered for the kids when it was time for dinner. 🙌

Chickasaw is the only @tennesseestatepark we’ve visited thus far with a core of facilities that is entirely walkable, which really lends to a tight community feel and makes it easy to forget the world outside your vacation bubble. It has…

🛏️ 13 cabins (7 of which are WPA-era historic and refurbished), a group lodge, and 3 campgrounds

🛶 Canoe and kayak rentals

🏊‍♂️A swimming beach

🛝 A lakefront playground and recreational courts

🥾 Trails through a variety of forest and wetland ecosystems

🐴 Guided horseback rides, a wrangler campground, and miles of riding trails

🌳 14,000 acres of State Forest land to explore

Not a bad stay for our 34th park!

Ever taken your kids on a cave hike? There are lo Ever taken your kids on a cave hike?

There are lots of well-known, impressive but more costly caves near middle Tennessee, but there’s also a few free or low-cost ones to explore in our @tennesseestateparks!

You can find caves at Cordell Hull Birthplace, Cedars of Lebanon, Fall Creek Falls, South Cumberland, and Dunbar Cave State Parks. Ranger-led tours are available for a variety ages and ability levels!

(Be sure to check park websites for specific permit or regulation info.)
